Programme Highlight

Since the 1970s HK has been a centre of geotechnical activities ranging from slopes to infrastructure developments. 30 years have passed since the forming of the HKIE Geotechnical Division (GD) in 1987 to provide a platform for the development of geotechnical excellence in HK. In the past 10 years significant underground and at-grade geotechnical works have been carried out for the new metro lines and railways, public and private housing developments, land reclamations, etc. The geotechnical professions have gained valuable experience in the latest technology, standards and practices of geotechnical engineering in HK.

10 years ago, the HKIE GD Annual Seminar 2007 was themed “Geotechnical Advancements in Hong Kong since 1970s” to consolidate the then state-of-the-art and state-of-practice geotechnical engineering in HK. This time, we wish to consolidate geotechnical advancement achieved in the past 10 years and highlight challenges and new adventures ahead of us. There should be a drive to make use of the geotechnical skills learnt in HK and export them overseas for sustainable development. The HKIE GD Annual Seminar 2017 is therefore themed G-EVOLUTION: Geotechnical Practice in Hong Kong”. It provides a platform for the geotechnical academics and engineers to gather together and share their experience in the research/design/construction of geotechnical works in HK.
